APDS Releases Version 3.0 of International Data Specification for Parking
June 17, 2021
These are exciting times—around the globe, new services and technologies
are intersecting to create value-added convenience to customers and business
owners while better utilizing our available parking, mobility, and transport
infrastructure. Whether related to car-sharing, ride-sharing, micro-mobility
services, prepaid parking, dynamic pricing in parking structures, remote
management of operations, and/or improved reporting, sharing data is key
to enabling the adoption of these services.
APDS has developed a free consensus-built, international data specification
that establishes a common language for data elements and definitions in the
parking, transportation, and mobility sectors. The specification facilitates seamless
integration, compatibility, and communication between parking entities, asset
owners, municipalities, the automotive industry, IT developers, ITS operators, services, and map and app providers, as well as other stakeholders.
APDS Version 3.0 is now open for public comment through a free download.
Request the release candidate and submit your suggestions, corrections and comment through July 30, 2021. All submissions will be carefully considered and a final version of APDS specification release 3.0 is planned for fall 2021.
This updated version covers the data related to Place, Right, Rate, Quote, Occupancy, Session, and Observation. The APDS candidate release 3.0 documents include:
Updates and enhancements included in candidate release 3.0 from current release 2.1 include:
Introduction of Quote domain supports sharing of price and availability quotes for accessing Rights to support transactions. Allows entities to share transaction detail without committing to a transaction.
Equipment and Services available in a Place are more easily documented and shared within an Identified Area under the Place data. Supports items such as EV charging units, bike racks, restrooms, and concessions that may be available in parking and curbside areas.
Organization roles and contacts are better unified throughout the information model.
User-defined lists enabled for specific data elements such as occupancy level, emissions, vehicle types, and user groups. Allows an entity to share data that fits the local entity’s needs.
Expanded vehicular access specialization for identified areas supports roadways. Allows entity to direct vehicles to off-highway parking facilities and truck stops or to direct ticketed patrons to event parking locations.
Financial data moved from Session to Right Domain to enable more accurate referencing of financial transaction activity.
Addition of several use cases to show application of data specification.
In addition to the candidate release, APDS has created the guideline on how to use the specification with common messaging formats.
